Question: How can I get rid of the strong taste of red onions?
Answer: Raw red onions add crunch, color and flavor in raw dishes, particularly salads and salsas. But they can pack a powerful oniony punch.
To tame their flavor a bit, slice them and cover them with cold water. Let them stand while you prepare the other ingredients in the dish. You can add a little salt to the water, too.
Before you add them to the finished dish, drain them well and rinse them. That should keep them from announcing their presence quite so loudly.
