Women of the World, performing folk and traditional music in 29 languages, will appear Sept. 16 at Slippery Rock University as part of SRU's 2016-17 Performing Arts Series.
SRU's Performing Arts Series to feature music, acrobats

SLIPPERY ROCK — Music and acrobats will take center stage as part of the Slippery Rock University Performing Arts Series.

Women of the World, former champions of the Harmony Sweepstakes national a cappella competition, open the series at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in the University Union. Members perform folk and traditional music in 29 languages.

The Annie Moses Band will perform at 2 p.m. Oct. 23 in the University Union. Featuring a blend of folk and classical music, the band combines technical skill with showmanship. The group has aired on PBS and at Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry.

Gravity and Other Myths, an acrobatics ensemble from Australia, creates their work with an emphasis on the approach to performance, moving away from traditional circus and theater models toward physical theater.

The ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Smith Student Center.

John Ford Coley, best known as half of the Grammy-nominated duo along with England Dan, is now playing classic hits and new music in a solo show.

Coley will perform hit songs including: “I'd Really Love To See You Tonight” and “Love Is the Answer” at his 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 show in the University Union.The series wrap ups with a performance by “We've Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered” at 7:30 p.m. March 31 in the University Union. The acrobatics ensemble Gravity and Other Myths will perform Nov. 10 in Slippery Rock University's Smith Student Center.
