It’s beautiful how Seneca Valley community remembers Ryan Gloyer
More than 500 people were at the starting line on a Sunday morning, Nov. 3, for a 5K race honoring Ryan Gloyer.
The second annual event brought in nearly 200 more people than the first event — both of which help to preserve the memory of Ryan Gloyer, who the middle school is named after.
Eagle staff writer Eddie Trizzino reported that Gloyer enlisted in the Army in 2004 and died Nov. 3, 2016, in battle in Kunduz, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel, making Sunday the eighth anniversary of his death.
Gloyer graduated from Seneca Valley Senior High School in 2000 and went on to earn two degrees from Thiel College — one in psychology and one in early education.
One of the best parts of the story about Sunday’s 5K, for us, was that the increased attendance was attributed to students, “who came out in droves for the event.”
We are happy to see the new event for the Seneca Valley community not only continuing, but thriving in its second year.
Gloyer has been remembered well by the Seneca Valley community since his death, and the way the community comes together to honor him years later, it’s beautiful and makes us hopeful for the future of his legacy.
Gloyer was a soldier, but also a son, brother and friend to many in our area. On Sunday, he was remembered as such.
