Grove City’s veterans parade returns after 50 year absence
A parade honoring veterans will return to Grove City after a 50 year absence.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 519 Auxiliary shared the idea and the community ran with the notion, according to Etta Miller, senior vice president of the VFW Post 519 Auxiliary.
“We thought it was a good way to honor veterans,” Miller said.
The parade, featuring 60 units, will begin at noon and travel straight up Broad Street before heading toward the VFW to disband. The Harrisville American Legion Post 852’s honor guard is to lead the parade.
Those participating are to meet at 10:30 a.m. in the area of Greenwood Drive.
Others participating in the parade include numerous fire departments, Girl and Boy Scouts and, of course, veterans.
Miller said she was amazed by the community’s support.
“I’m amazed by the amount of people who stepped up to help organize this,” she said. “People showed up and said, ‘What can we do?’”
