Trump’s popularity in Butler County surging after historic victory
With former President Donald Trump clinching a nonconsecutive second term in office on Tuesday, Nov. 5, Butler County residents aren’t hesitating to continue showing signs of support of the now president-elect.
“I think his popularity’s going to continue,” Adams Ridge resident Larry Henne said. “People who rode his bandwagon up to the election are going to continue to do that. You’re still going to see MAGA hats and MAGA flags. Probably not to the extent as it was up to the election, but you’ll still see that loyalty going forward.”
Trump secured 79,147 votes in Butler County and won the county by 33 points over Vice President Kamala Harris. His win makes him the second United States president in history to serve nonconsecutive terms: Grover Cleveland did it from 1885-1889 and 1893-1897.
“He related to the working person is what he did,” Henne said. “He put an agenda together that focused on the middle class people and the working class people.”
Joy Snyder with The Impassioned Patriots was up early to run her Trump merchandise stand, located just off Route 8.
“I am just so lucky to be here,” she said. “I have met so many wonderful people you wouldn’t believe it. All the Trump people are so sincere and so wonderful. It’s like one big family. Everybody is friendly and cordial to each other, and they want to build our country back up.”
Snyder, who moved to Middlesex Township from Allegheny County, said Trump’s popularity will stand the test of time.
“He’s basically a legend now,” she said. “He’ll definitely be even more of a legend as time goes on. Every part of his acceptance speech was phenomenal.”
Snyder made plenty of new friends over the course of the last few months while setting up shop inside a shed full of Trump-themed clothing, buttons, flags, posters and pins. She’s kept in contact with a number of those individuals, many of whom share Snyder’s views on what Trump is capable of in the next four years.
“I think it’s going to be a better world and a safer world,” said Kathy Hudic, who stopped by to say hello on her way to visiting her father in Butler. “We’re going to be able to afford things now and be happy again. I’ve never felt this happy, relieved and stress-free in a long time.”
