Make the most of your holiday parties

Holiday parties are a great way to spend time with family and friends, but they can get stressful. Luckily eHow.com has useful tips to ensure that you make the most of your holiday parties this season.

•4 The most important part of the party is the guests. Make sure you send invitations early, as the holidays are a busy time. Invitations let guests know the theme and tone for your holiday event, so choose accordingly.

• Your theme will help you plan the menu and select decorations and invitations. Some creative ideas are “Winter Wonderland,” “The Nutcracker,” “The Grinch” or “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.”

• Whether you decide to serve hors d’oeuvres, a buffet dinner or a sit down meal, prepare as much food ahead of time as possible. Eggnog, mulled wine and buttered rum are great holiday favorites. To accommodate for all your guests, have a variety of non-alcoholic options on-hand as well.

• Be sure to RSVP to the party so the host knows how many people to expect. Always arrive on time and leave when appropriate. It can be an imposition to arrive too early or too late.

• Bringing a gift for the host will really make an impression and show your appreciation. A poinsettia or scented candle will add to the decor, and a thoughtful gift of food or drink will surely be enjoyed by all.

• Pitch in wherever possible. Being a host is hard work and helping out allows the host to enjoy the party as well. Offer to help in a way that is generous, without sounding like you want to take over.
