'Talons'snag spotlight at aviary

Look at the claws on Fleury, the National Aviary's snowy owl, that has been in training for the new, interactive, free-flight show “Talons” opening Saturday.

PITTSBURGH — Opening Saturday at the National Aviary will be “Talons!” a new, interactive, free-flight show featuring birds of prey.

The show will be presented daily at noon and 2:30 p.m.

Birds of prey are valuable because of their place in the world’s ecosystems and what their role at the top of the food chain can tell us.

Each bird in the show demonstrates its most unique skill: the speed of a falcon or the precision hunting of an owl. Lighting, sound, video and close encounters with live birds contribute to the immersive set design.

The show is $5 in addition to the regular cost of admission.

The aviary, 700 Arch St. in Allegheny Commons West, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Admission is $13 for adults and $11 for senior citizens and children 2 to 12.

Also opening Saturday is a related show “Raptors!” with viewing times at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. daily.

Call 412-323-7235 or visit nationalaviary.org.
