AABC show, Toys for Tots collection begin
The Associated Artists of Butler County annual holiday show and sale opens Friday with a bit of a difference.
In a change from tradition, admission to the opening will be charged and what’s collected will go to the Toys for Tots campaign. Guests can either donate a new toy or pay $2, with all proceeds benefiting the Marine Corps’ program for children. Patrons younger than age 12 will be admitted free.
As of 2009, the Toys for Tots Program and Foundation had collected and distributed almost 500,000,000 toys to needy children.
“With the economy still on shaky ground, we know there will be a lot of needy kids in Butler this Christmas and are hoping the community will support this effort to brighten the holidays for a needy child,” said AABC President Paul Scanlon.
The opening night reception will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St. Santa Claus will make an appearance and light refreshments will be served.
Artwork available for sale includes large wood sculptures, framed pencil drawings, watercolors, photography and some smaller items in the Members Gift Shop.
The exhibit will remain on display through Dec. 31 during The Art Center hours of noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, noon to 9 p.m. Fridays, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
Holiday art classes are available for children and adults. Call 724-283-6922 or check the AABC website for schedules.
