Fire levels city home, damages another
State and city fire officials are investigating a Monday night blaze that destroyed one home and damaged another one in Butler's Island neighborhood.
But the cause of the fire at 505 Negley Ave. might never be known, said Butler Fire Chief Nick Ban, because of the extent of the damage.
"It was an old, dried-out tinder box," he said of the three-story, wood-frame building covered with aluminum siding. "It went up quick."
No one was injured, but a family of five living in the house next door was left temporarily homeless.
