NORTH BUFFALO TWP, Armstrong County — A 73-year-old man died after falling down the basement stairs inside his home Friday afternoon.

The man was identified as James Hetrick by Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers.

Hetrick was walking up the stairs, stumbled at the top and fell down, landing on his head and back, according to a state police news release.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His fall was witnessed by a relative inside the house, Myers said.

The likely cause of death was blunt force trauma, he said.

State police responded, though no foul play is suspected.
