Parks hold orientation day

MUDDY CREEK TWP — McConnells Mill and Moraine state parks will host Volunteer Orientation and Appreciation Day at 11 a.m. April 26.

Park staff and volunteers will show people who want to volunteer in the parks what opportunities are available. Volunteers are needed to guide visitors through the mill at McConnells Mill, work with antique oil well machinery and other jobs.

Those attending the event will meet park naturalists, see an oil well site and visit the historic gristmill.

Those interested should call 724-368-8811 or e-mail morainesp@state.pa.us.

Both parks also offer learning opportunities for students of all ages. The environmental education staff guides field trips in both parks and has lessons in a classroom.

The park staff includes certified teachers who design programs that meet state educational standards and that offer hands-on activities.

For information about education programs, call 724-368-3612.
