Avanell K. Calhoun

Avanell K. Calhoun, 84, of Kennedy Lane died at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday at UPMC Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born April 18, 1920, in Brandy Camp, Elk County, she was the daughter of William H. Nulph and Geraldine Stewart.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Calhoun was a homemaker; and in her earlier years, she worked at Troutman's department store.

She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Calhoun, whom she married Oct. 18, 1938; a son and his wife, Chuck and Lou Calhoun of Florence, Texas; a daughter and her husband, Betty and Tom Uber of Butler; three granddaughters, Michele Chiprean of Erie, Beth Wilbert of Fenelton and Wendy Calhoun of Florence; a grandson, Kelly Calhoun of Georgetown, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Hepler of Butler and Mrs. Dolores Witherow of Franklin; a brother and his wife, Richard "Dick" and Janice Nulph of Butler; a number of nieces and nephews; and her extended family, Lorie Troyan and her husband, Gene, and their sons, Chad and Shane, of Butler, also survive.

A brother, William Nulph, preceded her in death.

CALHOUN - Friends of Avanell K. Calhoun, who died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today atTHOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. David Panther officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum, Butler County Memorial Park.Information also is available at www.thompson-miller.com.
