Sandala

John W. Sandala, 80, of Butler passed away at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born July 7, 1932, in Weirton, W.Va., to the late Peter Sandala and Mary (Billcheck) Sandala.

Mr. Sandala was a truck driver who drove for Herr-Voss in Callery, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Moraine Trails Council, and was a scout master for more than 25 years with Troop 399 of Evans City. Mr. Sandala was a former member of the American Field Service, hosting foreign students. He was also an avid Steelers fan.

Mr. Sandala was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War.

Mr. Sandala is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Preston Sandala, who he married on July 7, 1956; two daughters, Linda Kilgore and her husband, John, of Cranberry Township and Lisa Blanchette and her husband, Bob, of Fombell; two sons, Mark Sandala of Fombell and David Sandala of Butler; two grandchildren, Andrew Blanchette, and Rachel Sandala; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

SANDALA — Friends of John W. Sandala, who passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Aull of the Faith United Presbyterian Church officiating.
