John W. Sandala

John W. Sandala, 80, of Butler passed away at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born July 7, 1932, in Weirton, W.Va., to the late Peter Sandala and Mary (Billcheck) Sandala.

Mr. Sandala was a truck driver who drove for Herr-Voss in Callery, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Moraine Trails Council, and was a scout master for more than 25 years with Troop 399 of Evans City. Mr. Sandala was a former member of the American Field Service, hosting foreign students. He was also an avid Steelers fan.

Mr. Sandala was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War.

Mr. Sandala is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Preston Sandala, who he married on July 7, 1956; two daughters, Linda Kilgore and her husband, John, of Cranberry Township and Lisa Blanchette and her husband, Bob, of Fombell; two sons, Mark Sandala of Fombell and David Sandala of Butler; two grandchildren, Andrew Blanchette, and Rachel Sandala; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

SANDALA — Friends of John W. Sandala, who passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Aull of the Faith United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Pinewood Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Moraine Trails Council, 830 Morton Avenue, Butler, PA 16001 or to the Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N.
