Pedestrian hit in Cranberry Township identified

The man hit by a passing vehicle while walking along Franklin Road in Cranberry Township on Wednesday morning, Nov. 13, has been identified as 28-year-old Tayden Schweiger, of Cranberry Township.

According to township police, Schweiger was walking south along Franklin Road just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, when he was struck by a vehicle near the intersection with Mars-Crider Road. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Schweiger did not stop, police said.

The injured pedestrian was identified by fellow Cranberry resident Tracy Bazzy, who set up a fundraiser on the website GoFundMe to help pay for the Schweiger family’s hospital bills. Both Bazzy and Schweiger live in the Hazelwood Farms neighborhood.

“I live just a few feet away from the incident, but I did not see it,” Bazzy said.

The GoFundMe has been up since Thursday afternoon, and is seeking $25,000 in donations. As of Thursday night, it has received $1,325 in donations from eight donors.

There have been no official updates on the incident since Wednesday afternoon. Police are still asking anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run to contact the Cranberry Township Police at 724-776-5180, ext. 5, or the Butler County Department of Emergency Services Communications Center at 724-282-1221.
