Clinton Township discusses implementing burning ordinance
CLINTON TWP — At the monthly meeting on Wednesday night, Nov. 13, the township supervisors discussed the possibility of implementing a new ordinance to control the burning of leaves or garbage by township residents.
While no action was taken on the subject during the meeting, the idea came up due to the exceedingly dry weather in Butler County over the past few weeks, which has led to numerous brush fires.
“We’ve had a lot of problems in the township in the last year,” said supervisor Kathy Allen. “I think in the last two weeks we’ve had five incidents where people were burning trash and/or leaves, which turned into a real problem with the fire company coming down.”
Fellow Supervisor William Duncan added that the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company, which also covers Clinton Township, responded to 26 brush fires in the township over the past year.
“They have been really terrific coming down,” Allen said, praising the efforts of Saxonburg department members and their chief, Christopher Dean. “However, it’s a shame that they come down spending the time, money and energy to put out fires that maybe could have been prevented.”
