Officer charged in fatal hit, run
PITTSBURGH — A police officer in the Pittsburgh suburb of Crafton has turned himself in to face charges in a hit-and-run accident in which a pedestrian was killed.
Police say 38-year-old Donnie Breeden surrendered Friday at Pittsburgh Police Headquarters accompanied by his lawyer. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter and accidents involving death or personal injury in the accident that killed 24-year-old David Hall on July 20, 2007.
Police say they got a tip that led them to an acquaintance of Breeden's who went to the scene of the accident to check on Hall's condition.
Crafton Mayor Susan O'Connell says Breeden has been with her borough's police force for 15 years and remains on the force for now.
