Man charged with false hit-and-run report

A Monroeville man is accused of filing a false hit-and-run report as a way of excusing his lateness for ROTC training at Slippery Rock University.

According to the criminal complaint, Delon Harrison, 20, of Monroeville, told an officer from the SRU Police Department on Nov. 6 that after leaving his residence hall, he had been hit by a car driving 35-40 mph in the Milhalik-Thompson stadium parking lot.

Harrison told the police officer he was able to jump and roll over the car when he got hit. After filing a voluntary statement affirming the incident, an investigation found camera footage of the area showed the report filed was false, with Harrison leaving the residence hall and getting into a vehicle.

The complaint said that when he was confronted, Harrison admitted to making up the story because he was running late for ROTC training and needed an excuse.

Officer Jason Squatrito, who interviewed Harrison at the dispatch desk Nov. 6, filed the affidavit.
