With winter and falling temperatures just around the corner, the state Department of Transportation is reminding motorists to prepare for the onset of winter weather on the roads, and outlining some tips to drive safely when the weather turns ugly.

Drivers are advised to turn their low beams on during winter weather conditions, even during the day, and turn off cruise control on wet, icy, or snow-covered roads. It is also advised to slow down while driving on packed snow or ice.

Drivers are also urged to stock their vehicles with emergency supplies and to clear their vehicle of snow or ice before they begin driving.

And, of course, drivers are told to always wear their seat belts, and if it isn’t necessary to travel, stay home.
