Rodney Hockenberry

Hockenberry

Rodney W. Hockenberry, 94, of Grove City, passed peacefully following an extended illness of bladder cancer, Monday, Nov. 18, 2024.

He was greeted by his loving wife, Virginia; his mother, who passed away when he was just 9 months old; his father; and his 10 siblings.

Rodney was born Sept. 24, 1930, to Milton and Myrtle (Albert) Hockenberry. He was the youngest child of 11.

Rodney grew up in Slippery Rock and went to Slippery Rock High School. He married Virginia Anderson on June 9, 1950, at the home of Raymond and Jackie Pierce of Harrisville.

Together, Rodney and Virginia opened Big Oak Mobile Home Park in 1956, and in 1971, Big Oak Mobile Home Sales.

Rodney was a member of East Main Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Masons, Grove City Lodge 603. Rodney was always proud to have four generations of his immediate descendants, members of the Order.

In 1985, they built their winter home in Fort Pierce, Fla. They were members of the Executive East Pioneers RV Club, where they attended rallies and traveled with longtime friends throughout the country.

Rodney was a hardworking, self-made, successful businessman who believed a full life cannot be achieved without service to others. He was always sensitive to the needs and welfare of children and charities that support them.

He is survived by his three sons, David R., Douglas P. and Dennis W. Hockenberry, all of Grove City; six grandchildren, Jennifer Myers, Dawn Marie (Henry) Deal, Matthew (Amanda) Hockenberry, William (Jennifer) Hockenberry, Richard (Renee) Hockenberry, and Timothy (Rhonda) Hockenberry; several great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Scherri Graizer of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

His wife; parents; 10 siblings; and a daughter in-law, Francis M. Hockenberry, preceded Rodney in death.
