A Connoquenessing Township couple, along with their six dogs, are displaced and seeking new accommodations after an electrical fire swept through their single-wide mobile home on Hoot Owl Road on Sunday, Nov. 24.

The fire was reported around 11:15 a.m. as an odor in the residence, and was later upgraded to a fire call. Lou Zimmerman, chief of the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Department, said the fire was electrical in nature.

“Originally we were called for an odor inside the residence,” Zimmerman said. “We got there and quickly determined that the odor was something burning.”

Zimmerman said both of the home’s residents were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for evaluation, but neither suffered any injuries, nor did any of their six dogs. However, the mobile home is unlivable, and the fire department is working with the Red Cross to seek out new living arrangements for the family.

“There was moderate damage, but it’s not livable at the moment, so I contacted the Red Cross,” Zimmerman said. “I just met with them, and they’re getting everything they need to get these people shelter so they can figure out where they’re going.”

In addition to the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Department, fire departments from Evans City, Harmony, and Prospect responded to the scene, as did Harmony EMS.
