Leaders consider celebration in Slippery Rock for America’s 250th anniversary
Several holiday celebrations were discussed at a Slippery Rock borough meeting last week, including an Independence Day event for the country’s 250th anniversary in July 2026.
The Independence Day celebration was discussed and other holiday events, including a breakfast with Santa event, were announced at the meeting.
“I don’t think we can get started any sooner,” said Slippery Rock mayor Jondavid Longo about the July 4th event. “ I know for certain the President is going to be putting together a commission that's outside of the America250 project, and specifically it's going to be for the purpose of … cooperating with counties and local municipalities like ours to put on a proper celebration.
“My hope is that I can pull some of their resources over to Slippery Rock and we can really celebrate properly.”
Other upcoming events include those put on by Slippery Rock Area Parks and Recreation.
One is a raffle for a Blue Ridge Mountain retreat in Virginia. Tickets can be purchased at the parks and recreation building for $20 each.
Additionally, there will be a Breakfast with Santa event on Dec. 7 at Slippery Rock Area Elementary School from 9 to 11 a.m. It will cost $10 per person.
