Guitar icon Joe Negri takes talents to Strand
ZELIENOPLE — The Joe Negri Quartet will perform a Christmas jazz concert at 8 p.m. Friday at the Strand Theater, 119 N. Main St., and tickets are still available.
Negri and his band helped to reopen The Strand in July with a free concert sponsored by Zelienople Borough through the Horse Trading Days festival. It had taken eight years of fundraising and two years of renovations to revive the theater.
Negri started playing the guitar when he was 8 years old. He also is well-remembered for his role as Handyman Negri on "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood," which he played for 30 years.
For the concert, he will be joined by bandmates Max Leake, Brian Stahurski and Tom Wendt.
Tickets are $29 and are available by calling 724-742-0400 or online at www.thestrandtheater.org. The Strand box office is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
The Christmas event called "An Inspirational Christmas" that was scheduled for Saturday at the Strand has been canceled.
As for movies playing at the theater, "The Polar Express" will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets for the film are $5; senior citizens age 60 and older pay $4. The theater opens a half hour before showtime.
