WAYNESBURG — Seneca Valley graduate Troy Abbott, the No. 1 singles player for the Westminster College men's tennis team, helped the Titans defeat Waynesburg over the weekend.

Abbott won a 6-0, 6-0 decision in singles over Isaiah Cochran, then teamed with Mike Matisi for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.

Westminster (5-5, 3-1) won the team match, 6-3.

LOCK HAVEN — Slippery Rock University senior shortstop Will Kengor was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West baseball Player of the Week Monday.Kengor batted .571 with three doubles, one triple, one home run and drove in 15 in eight PSAC-West games last week.The Rock went 6-2 during those games.Kengor, a leadoff hitter for SRU, leads the PSAC in batting average (.430), hits (52) and runs scored (36).

STORRS, Conn. — Jubilant fans celebrating UConn's national basketball championship win smashed a window in an engineering building, broke street lights and overturned furniture inside the school's student union.Campus police had made 30 arrests by 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, while state police had made others and more were expected, said University of Connecticut spokesman Tom Breen.“A lot of it was alcohol-related,” Breen said. “There was breech of peace, destruction of property, and we had a fireworks charge.”Most of the property damage was minor, he said. No serious injuries had been reported.

NEW YORK — Larry Brown thinks the New York Knicks have mistreated coach Mike Woodson. But if they are going to replace him, it should be with Phil Jackson.The Knicks hired Jackson as team president, but Brown finds it “troublesome” that Jackson won't be coaching, saying “you're not going to make the Knicks better by living in L.A. and being there half the time.”Brown also said during an interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio on Monday that general manager Steve Mills has “no clue” about basketball.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Panthers signed free agent wide receiver Jason Avant to a one-year contract.Financial terms were not released. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Avant spent his first eight seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. Last season he started a career-high 13 games and had 38 receptions for 447 yards and two touchdowns, but was not re-signed.

NEW YORK — Steve Masiello will be reinstated as the head coach at Manhattan College as soon as he receives his degree from the University of Kentucky.The school announced that Masiello will be on unpaid leave until he gets the degree. During his absence, associate head coach Matt Grady will lead the program. Masiello has a 61-39 career record at Manhattan.
