IN BRIEF

Four Butler County teams will compete in the PIAA playoffs this week.

All first-round games will take place on Tuesday.

• The WPIAL champion Freeport volleyball team will play at North Allegheny High School to square off with Hopewell, the No. 4 seed out of the WPIAL, at 7:30 p.m.

• Knoch volleyball, the WPIAL No. 3 seed, will travel to Cochranton High School to take on District 10 champion Conneaut Lake at 8 p.m.

• The WPIAL champion Seneca Valley girls soccer team will head to Chartiers Valley High School to play WPIAL No. 3 seed Bethel Park at 6 p.m.

• The District 9 champion Karns City girls soccer team will travel to Clarion University to face WPIAL runner-up Greensburg Central Catholic at 7 p.m.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University quarterback Nigel Barksdale was named the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week.It's the fourth time Barksdale has earned the award. No other player has won it more than once.The senior passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 125 yards and another score during The Rock's 35-17 victory over California (Pa.) on Saturday.
