Hefren-Tillotson has announced the addition of a new financial adviser in its Butler office.

Dustin Thompson specializes in the areas of investments and insurance.

Thompson returns to Pittsburgh and Hefren-Tillotson from Scottsdale, Ariz., where he was the agent and owner of Thompson Insurance and Financial Services, part of a State Farm agency.

While with State Farm, he represented financial and insurance products, as well as recruited, hired and trained staff members.

He began his career with John Hancock providing advice on mutual funds, life insurance, and long term care insurance. He then worked with Nationwide as a financial specialist.

Thompson is a graduate of Virginia Tech University with a B.S. in finance and is Series 6/63, life and health, and property and casualty insurance licensed.

CRANBERRY TWP — A seminar to educate businesses and groups on successful event planning is coming to the township on Nov. 1.Called “Strategies for Successful Events,” the seminar will help event planners learn ways to increase attendance and revenues as well as tips to enhance planning, public relations and marketing.Sponsored by the Pittsburgh and Its Countryside Tourism Marketing Group, it will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course.A fee of $5, which will include lunch, will be charged to members of the participating agencies. It will be $10 for everyone else.Participating marketing organizations from Armstrong, Butler, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer and Washington counties are sponsoring the event, including the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau.Reservations must be made by Oct. 25.
