STATE COLLEGE — The firing of a Penn State athletics official was connected to the investigation into the child sexual abuse case at the university, said two persons familiar with the situation.
Mark Sherburne, an associate athletic director, was fired this week, said the people who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to speak publicly about the matter.
One person said Sherburne was dismissed for failing to produce in a timely fashion documents under subpoena by the state Attorney General's office related to its investigation into Sherburne's boss, Athletic Director Tim Curley.
NEW YORK — Baseball players and owners have banned the type of personal-services contracts agreed to by Albert Pujols and Ryan Zimmerman during the offseason.In addition, the sides said they have prohibited the bonuses for milestone accomplishments contained in the deal Pujols signed with the Los Angeles Angels and the agreement between Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees that began in 2008.Only new contracts will be affected under the agreement, reached March 29, and the previous deals will be allowed to stand.
