SLIPPERY ROCK — Senior free safety Brandon Watters headlined a list of four Slippery Rock University football players named to the Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region One team Monday.

SRU grad breaks wrestling recordLEECHBURG — Slippery Rock University graduate and longtime Kiski Area High School wrestling coach Chuck Tursky became the WPIAL’s all-time leader in career wins Friday when his team downed Burrell 60-14.The win was the 449th in Tursky’s career and moved him past fellow SRU graduate Tom Dolde, Sr., who notched 448 wins at Connellsville.

Paternos donate $100K to PSUHARRISBURG — Former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and his wife donated $100,000 last month to Penn State, money that was split between a library and an undergraduate fellows program that bear the family name.Sue Paterno on Monday described the contributions to the Paterno Liberal Arts Undergraduate Fellows Program and the Paterno Library as an annual gift.Joe Paterno, 85, is being treated for lung cancer two months after university trustees fired him in the wake of allegations that former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky molested children on school property.
