SLIPPERY ROCK — Six members of the 23rd-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team have been accorded All-PSAC honors.

Erin Flatley and Shelby Ward were named to the first team, Kara Mullins earned second team honors and Butler graduate Lisa Rodgers, Izabel Scott and Lucy Hannon were named third team.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Megan Hardiman, a 5-foot-11 guard from Louden, N.H., has signed a letter of intent to play women's basketball at Slippery Rock University in 2012-13.Now attending Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, Hardiman scored more than 1,000 points at Merrimack Valley High School last season, earned second team all-state honors and led her team to a 17-3 final record.She can play all five positions on the court.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Fairfield University senior volleyball player Lauren Balmert, a graduate of Seneca Valley, was selected to Capital One Academic All-District First Team by CoSIDA.This year marks the third year Balmert was named to the team, but first time on the first team. She now advances to the national ballot for All-American honors later this month.Balmert, an economics major, has a 3.88 grade point average. This season, she has recorded 214 digs, including 22 against Siena College. She is also ranked fifth all-time in assists (2,231) for the Stags.

STATE COLLEGE — Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary will miss Saturday's game against Nebraska after the school said he received “multiple threats.”McQueary testified in a grand jury investigation that eventually led to child sex-abuse charges being filed against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.McQueary, who testified that he saw Sandusky sodomizing a boy in the shower, encountered similar scrutiny. The university's athletic department released a one-line statement saying it would be “in the best interest of all” if the receivers coach didn't attend the season's final home game at Beaver Stadium.

NEW YORK — David Stern is ready to start a 72-game season on Dec. 15.Players, however, aren't prepared to make that happen just yet.If they choose to reject the league's latest ultimatum, they will get a far harsher offer, one that could put the entire NBA season in jeopardy.The answer should come early next week — and Stern made it clear: Yes or no, no more negotiating.
