The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team received a berth into the NCAA Division II tournament Monday night.
The Rock (14-4-2) are one of 48 teams in the tournament.
SRU, ranked No. 22 in the nation in the latest poll, received the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic Region and will travel to Kutztown Friday for an opening-round match against sixth-seeded Alderson-Broaddus.
The winner will take on Kutztown, the No. 1 seed, Sunday.
This is the second consecutive NCAA berth and seventh overall for the SRU women's soccer program under coach Noreen Herlihy.
SHIPPENVILLE — Karns City's Glenn Toy and Port Allegany's Matt Bodamer were named the RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com Co-Players of the Week for their performances on Friday.Toy played a big part in helping Karns City shred the best scoring defense in District 9, rushing 18 times for 218 yards and five touchdowns in a 46-28 Gremlin win over Clarion.The 46 points doubled the previous high allowed by the Bobcats this season. Toy was also a forced on the defensive side of the football making eight tackles and picking off a pass.

BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles have formally announced the hiring of Dan Duquette as executive vice president of baseball operations.Duquette signed a three-year contract on Sunday. He will be introduced to the media in a news conference Tuesday morning.The 53-year-old Duquette will attempt to bring the Orioles out of their run of 14 successive losing seasons.
OXFORD, Miss. — Mississippi coach Houston Nutt says he isn't surprised he's been asked to resign.Nutt said at a press conference “the thing about the SEC that I know, they pay you to win.”The fourth-year coach didn't do that enough. The Rebels have lost 12 consecutive Southeastern Conference games, including Saturday's 30-13 loss to Kentucky. Mississippi is 2-7 this year, including 0-6 in the SEC. Nutt is 24-23 in his four years in Oxford.
NORMAN, Okla. — University of Oklahoma President David Boren says the Big 12 Conference is settled with 10 teams through the 2012 football season, but didn’t rule out the possibility that two more teams could be added in 2013.Boren told The Associated Press on Monday that if the conference decides to expand back to 12 teams, “we have many other schools still knocking on the door.”
