JACKSON TWP — Former Butler High football star and Penn State University graduate Tyrell Sales is no longer Seneca Valley’s linebackers coach.
SV head coach Don Holl confirmed Wednesday that Jay Junko, who was already on the varsity staff, has taken over as the team’s linebackers coach, but was not able to provide further information regarding the move.
PITTSBURGH — The Pirates traded outfielders Matt Diaz and John Bowker to the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies in separtate deals Wednesday.Diaz hit .259 with 12 doubles and 19 RBI in 216 at bats with the Bucs before being sent back to Atlanta, where he spent the previous five seasons.Bowker hit .306 with 15 homers and 76 RBI with Class AAA Indianapolis after spending the season's first 19 games with the Pirates. He joined the Phillies' 25-man roster.Both players were dealt for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Former Predator Wade Belak, an enforcer who had played with five NHL teams before retiring in March, was found dead in Toronto. He was 35.Belak is the third NHL enforcer found dead since May.Winnipeg's Rick Rypien was found dead at the age of 27 earlier this month at his home in Alberta. Former Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard died in May at 28 due to an accidental mix of alcohol and the painkiller oxycodone.
