PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh junior Ashton Gibbs will declare for the NBA draft, but he will not hire an agent during the process.

Gibbs has until April 24 to formally apply and submit his NBA paperwork. As long as he doesn’t hire an agent, he would have until May 8 to withdraw his name without losing his eligibility with the Panthers.

Gibbs has led the Panthers in scoring the last two seasons. He averaged 16.8 points this season, a career high.

WASHINGTON — Each NFL player who contributed to a lockout fund will be able to begin collecting up to a total of about $60,000.After setting aside union dues and royalties during recent seasons, eligible players may start drawing from the fund April 15.

JEFFERSON TWP — Retired Knoch athletic director Dave Bracco and longtime girls track coach Fred Bernard will be honored prior to the Knights' home track meet April 13.Separate awards will be dedicated in their names at the 3:30 p.m. meet. Those awards — for Knoch athlete of the year and girls track and field athlete of the year — will be presented later in the spring.

WILKES-BARRE — Two Seneca Valley youth wrestlers placed at last weekend's Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Tournament.Tony Palumbo placed fifth at 140 pounds in the 13-14 age bracket. Louis Newell placed sixth at 75 pounds, age 9-10. This marks the first time in well over a decade that Seneca Valley had multiple state placers.Anthony Latess and Austin Leon are other SV wrestlers who competed in the tournament.

ALFRED, N.Y. — Olivia Eagal of the Butler equestrian team placed first in the Junior Varsity Beginner Horsemanship class at the IEA Zone 2 Finals last weekend at Alfred University.Eagal will move on to the IEA National Finals in Upper Marlboro, Md., April 28 through May 1.Carissa Chilcott placed third in Varsity Intermediate Horsemanship and Dakota Roy was sixth in Varsity Open Reining. Hunt seat riders Chilcott and Sarah Stovar did not place.
