Golden Tornado linebacker Cole Baxter and Raiders offensive tackle David Miller earned first-team honors.
Butler defensive lineman Adam Steiner and defensive back David Hohn made the second team.
Earning second-team honors for Seneca Valley were defensive lineman Steve Swanson, linebacker Pat Kulp, punter Aaron Tanda, guard Jeff Palmer, receiver Oliver Philogene and multipurpose back Troy Witt.
Receiving honorable mentions were Butler defensive lineman Ben McKnight, linebacker Matt Pribis, defensive back Jarrod Werth, and Seneca Valley center Kevin Locke, receiver Jordan Glaser, running backs David Hall and Forrest Barnes, and quarterback Jordan Brown.
BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College men's basketball team picked up its first win in two years Tuesday night, defeating West Virginia Northern, 88-72.Jordan Taylor had 30 points and 15 assists for the Pioneers (1-3) while Antawane Davis had 25 points and 10 rebounds. Stephen Carter contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds.The BC3 men (1-3) host Pitt-Titusville at 7 p.m. Friday. The women's game is at 5.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Slippery Rock University graduate student Jen Harpp is closing her cross country career Saturday at the NCAA Division II National Championships, hosted by Bellarmine University.Harpp is going for her second consecutive All-America honor. The top 40 finishers at the national meet earn that recognition. Harpp placed 11th last year.
CAPE COD, Mass. — Mercyhurst College senior forward and Butler graduate Amy Achesinski was named ECAC Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week.Achesinski averaged 20.7 points and 10.7 rebounds over three games at the North Star Invitational, hosted by Alaska-Fairbanks.
WEST CHESTER — Slippery Rock University placekicker C.J. Bahr and center Brandon Fusco were named to the All-Super Region I first team.Fusco is a Seneca Valley graduate. TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson apologized for his Monday night postgame tirade.Speaking after practice Wednesday, Anderson said his mom and dad didn't raise him “to act like that in times of adversity.”The quarterback's rant, now a nationwide Internet spectacle, came after a series of questions from a reporter about why Anderson was smiling with teammate Deuce Lutui on the sidelines while the Cardinals were trailing by 18 points late in the game.Anderson said he was “very frustrated” by what had happened in the game and let his emotions get away from him.
RALEIGH, N.C. — Michael Jordan is finally being inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.The ceremony will take place in Charlotte on Dec. 14 at halftime of the game between the Toronto Raptors and Jordan's Bobcats.The hall's board of directors elected Jordan in 1993 after he led the Chicago Bulls to the third of six NBA championships. But he had retired from basketball and was playing minor league baseball, starting a long wait for a hall that requires inductees to personally accept the invitation.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters is the WTA’s player of the year.Clijsters won five tournaments, including the season-ending WTA Championships and her second consecutive title at Flushing Meadows. She was player of the year in 2005.
