PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have reached terms with five-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Flozell Adams on a two-year contract.
The Steelers have sought offensive line help since right tackle Willie Colon was lost for the season last month with a torn Achilles' tendon.
The Steelers could play the 35-year-old Adams at right tackle or shift him to his natural position of left tackle and move Max Starks to the right side.
The 6-foot-7, 340-pound Adams played 12 seasons with Dallas, but was cut last spring before receiving a $2.5 million roster bonus. He worked out with the Steelers last month.
BUTLER TWP — The Lyndora Lancers will host the Palomino East Zone Tournament from Saturday through Tuesday at Highfield Park.The six-team double-elimination tournament features Lyndora, North Hills, Astro Falcon (Youngstown, Ohio), Cincinnati Storm Club (Ohio), Lynnhaven (Va.) and Rotterdam Albany (N.Y.).Games will be played on both fields. Lyndora plays Astro Falcon at 3 p.m. Saturday.
An injury to opponent Michael Alexander has forced Brian Minto to cancel the pro-am boxing card scheduled for Aug. 14 at Pullman Park.Minto plans to fight locally Oct. 22 at a venue and against an opponent to be determined.Ticket refunds are available at the Butler Redevelopment Authority.
WASHINGTON — Rookie right-hander Stephen Strasburg went on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with inflammation in his throwing shoulder, the latest indication of how careful the Washington Nationals are being with their prized pitcher.It's the first trip to the DL for Strasburg, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 amateur draft and signed a record $15.1 million contract.Washington manager Jim Riggleman said the team expects Strasburg to pitch again for them this season. It's possible he could begin his road back by playing catch Saturday.
