SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University catcher Matt Adams was named Wednesday as the PSAC West and Daktronics Inc. Atlantic Region Player of the Year.
Adams compiled the highest batting average by an NCAA Division II player this season (.495), was fifth in on base percentage (.566), eighth in slugging percentage (.853) and total doubles (24), ninth in doubles per game (0.47) and 10th in total hits (91).
Joining Adams on the all-PSAC West team were senior outfielders Scott Bender and Rich Michalek, junior pitcher Scott Dunn and Slippery Rock High graduate and junior second baseman Billy Messer.
Junior starting pitcher Vince Lloyd and junior outfielder Jacob Oswalt were named second-team all-PSAC West.
INDIANAPOLIS — Michigan coach John Beilein will head a 14-member NCAA coaches coalition that hopes to clarify rules and prevent inadvertent infractions.The men's basketball ethics coalition also hopes to give coaches a better understanding of rules' intent so that they can learn to play by the spirit of the rule as well as conform to the letter of the law.Five of the BCS conferences are already represented. Only the Big East is not. Four members, including one current coach, have not been named.
