An open house to mark the 75th anniversary of Pullman Park will be held March 21.

The open house will be divided into three hour-long sessions. The first session begins at 1 p.m. and is for Butler BlueSox season ticket holders.

Those ticket holders will be able to choose their seat locations during that time.

The second session begins at 2 p.m. and is for the general public, businesses and Pullman Park alumni.

The final session begins at 3 p.m. and is for youngsters, who will be able to run the bases during that time period.

Each session will include a tour of the renovated ballpark. Door prizes, such as Butler BlueSox shirts and tickets, will be awarded.

BlueSox owner Leo Trich will be on hand and Bob Cupp will make a brief presentation on the history of the ballpark.

Stadium manager Dess Schnur said BlueSox schedules and a master schedule of all events at Pullman Park in 2009 also will be available.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Pittsburgh 3-Rivers Junior Olympic volleyball team placed third out of 32 teams in the Volley FX Winter Challenge last weekend.Butler County players on the team include Stephanie Mock and Becky Smith of Butler, and Meghan Franz and Alex Karika of Seneca Valley.Pittsburgh 3-Rivers was 7-1 in matches, 15-2 in games at the tournament.

DUNEDIN, Fla. — Butler native Matt Clement pitched three scoreless and hitless innings for the Toronto Blue Jays in a 6-5 victory over Team USA Wednesday.Clement had one strikeout and would have retired all nine batters he faced if not for a two-out error by first baseman Kevin Millar in the sixth inning.Clement's other spring outing was two innings in a Feb. 27 Grapefruit League game against Detroit.He allowed one run, a hit, walked two and struck out one in that contest.

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Joe Smith, a 2001 graduate of Butler High School who attends Ohio State University, has qualified for the National Collegiate Wrestling Association national championships in the 197-pound weight division.Smith placed fourth in the North Central Conference Tournament Feb. 28 to advance to the championships, which will be held next Thursday and Friday in Hampton, Va.
