EUCLID, Ohio — Ten students from the Slippery Rock and New Castle Taekwondo America Plus X-treme team pulled in 13 awards at the recent Ultimate Karate Challenge, their first tournament.
Slippery Rock team members winning awards included Nathan Moore (1st place, age 13-14 Novice forms; 2nd place Novice Sparring); Sam Pierce (1st place, 11-12 Novice Sparring; 3rd place, 11-12 Novice Forms); Mitchel Grossman (2nd place, 11-U black belt Point Sparring) and Patrick Snyder (3rd place, 11-U black belt Point Sparring).
The team is coached by Floyd Kish, Bill Cummings and Jeff Hilyard. The team's next tournament will be in Erie in August.
Butler native Matt Clement struggled in his fourth rehab start in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league organization Friday night.Clement was the starting pitcher for Class AAAMemphis and pitched three innings against Albuquerque, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking three.He was trailing 6-1 when the game was suspended by rain.
