Man sentenced for 2nd robbery
A Jefferson Township man was sentenced Thursday for robbing the same Butler convenience store he had a year earlier.
Anthony Donachy told Butler County Judge Timothy McCune that since he’s been in jail, he’s been attending Bible studies.
“I’m a more spiritual and better person over all,” Donachy, 30, said before being sentenced to serve 15 to 30 months in state prison followed by two years of probation.
According to court records, Donachy wrapped a sweat shirt around his face used a tire iron to strike the counter and menace a clerk at the 7-Eleven on Pillow Street.
The clerk refused to hand over any money. And when a customer came in, Donachy fled the store.
Donachy allegedly confessed that he tried to rob the store. He reportedly told police he had relapsed on crack cocaine and was seeking money to fuel his habit.
A year earlier, Donachy robbed the same store using a baseball bat. A clerk told police the robber in that crime demanded money while wielding the bat. Donachy made off with just $65 in the holdup Feb. 16, 2012. He was arrested later that same day.
The defendant eventually was convicted on charges of aggravated assault and theft in that case. He was sentenced to 9 to 18 months in the county prison.
After serving the minimum, he was released Oct. 7 and robbed the same store five months later.
At the time of the second robbery, Donachy was still on parole from the first one. McCune on Thursday ordered the defendant to finish out the remaining nine months on the first sentence before beginning the second sentence.
