Butler graduate Jill Rekich and Slippery Rock High School graduate Melissa Sopher comprised half of the Slippery Rock University women's track 1,600-meter relay team that won at the PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships recently.

Rekich and Sopher teamed with Andi Rose and Alison Gardner to run the event in three minutes, 57.08 seconds. The time marked a meet and school record.

Rose also won the 55-meter hurdles and teammate Janiece Rash won the 55-meter dash.

Sopher finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 59.71.

The SRU women finished second in the two-day event with 92 points, trailing only Kutztown's 111.

SRU's men finished fourth in the competition with 87 points. Shippensburg won the team title with 144 points.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A trust affiliated with Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher has bought a $2.5 million home in Raleigh, documents filed in Wake County show.Cowher's wife, Kaye, declined to confirm they had bought the 7,400-square-foot, five-bedroom house, but says she and her husband plan to eventually move to Raleigh."Raleigh is where we want to be," Kaye Cowher told The News & Observer of Raleigh. "It's where we went to school, we have family and great friends there, and it's a wonderful city. We're looking into real estate there."Bill Cowher was a linebacker at North Carolina State while Kaye Cowher and her twin sister played basketball at the school.

The Denver Broncos Wednesday waived leading rusher Mike Anderson, defensive end Trevor Pryce and tight end Jeb Putzier, clearing at least $10.6 million from their payroll before the start of free agency later this week.Defensive tackle Sam Adams was one of three players released by the Buffalo Bills in a significant salary-cap purge.Safety Lawyer Milloy and tight end Mark Campbell also were released, saving the Bills an estimated $9.1 million in salary cap space.The Carolina Panthers trimmed about $4 million off the salary cap by releasing defensive tackle former Pittsburgh Steeler Brentson Buckner, running back Stephen Davis and kick returner Rod Smart.The Miami Dolphins released Pro Bowl cornerback Sam Madison and three other players to make room under the salary cap for the start of free agency.The Dolphins also cut backup cornerback Reggie Howard, left tackle Damion McIntosh and strong safety Tebucky Jones.
