PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Pirates signed a two-year working agreement Monday with the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians of the American Association.

The Indians replace the Nashville Sounds as the Pirates' top farm club. The Indians previously were affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Indians have played since 1996 in Victory Field, a 12,500-seat stadium selected by several publications as the best ballpark in minor league baseball. The downtown stadium is located across the street from the RCA Dome, where the Indianapolis Colts play.

The Pirates have been concerned for several years about the playing conditions in Nashville, which has one of the oldest and least-attractive ballparks in the upper-level minors.

Katie Jewart had 16 kills, Shandy Gonzalez had 32 digs and Sarah Morley added 45 assists as the Butler County Community College volleyball team held off host Pitt-Titusville 30-19, 30-20, 25-30, 28-30, 15-13 Monday.BC3 (7-3, 4-0) host the Community College of Beaver County at 6 p.m. next Monday.

Grove City College's Chris Lee and Elisa Pedersen were named Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively.Lee, a senior, placed fourth out of 43 runners at the Allegheny Invitational in Meadville Saturday.Pedersen, a junior, won the individual title at the meet.Her time of 23 minutes, 21 seconds allowed her to win by 21 seconds. She also helped the Wolverines nab the team title.

Katie Herman, a sophomore on the Kutztown University women's volleyball team, earned PSAC East Player of the Week.In six matches last week, Herman, a graduate of Grove City High School, tallied 308 assists in 23 games and added 10 service aces, 26 kills and 64 digs.She set a Golden Bears' single match record with 73 assists in a win over Clarion, then followed with a 62-assist performance against New York Tech.

Evan Knox, a senior midfielder for the Thiel College men's soccer team, scored on a penalty kick to give the Tomcats a 1-0 victory over Hiram College Tuesday.Knox is a graduate of Karns City High School.

Ryan Beilstein, a sophomore goalie for the Westminster men's soccer team, recorded his fourth shutout in five games as the Titans blanked Point Park 3-0 Tuesday.Beilstein is a graduate of Knoch High School.Sam Robinson, a Butler graduate who is a sophomore midfielder, added an assist as Westminster improved to 5-0.

John Rutkoski of Butler, 120-yard, No. 2 hole Sunday at Oakview. He used a 9-iron.
