MINNEAPOLIS - The Anaheim Angels signed Andres Galarraga to a minor league contract Wednesday, and the 43-year-old first baseman will report to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

Galarraga recently beat cancer for a second time and wants to return to the major leagues so he can reach 400 home runs. He has 398, tied with Dale Murphy for 40th on the career list.

Galarraga missed the 1999 season after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. In November, he had a recurrence, underwent surgery and had a transplant in February that eliminated the disease.

SAN FRANCISCO - Ken Griffey Jr. returned to the Cincinnati Reds' lineup for the first time in nearly four weeks Wednesday, then left in the fifth inning with stiffness in his right hamstring.Griffey went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run. The team said his early exit was a precaution for the veteran slugger, who hadn't played since July 10, when he tore his hamstring.Griffey, activated from the disabled list Tuesday, played right field instead of center against the San Francisco Giants.

ATLANTA - The Mavericks Wednesday traded Antoine Walker and Tony Delk to the Hawks for Jason Terry, Alan Henderson and a first-round draft pick.Terry, Atlanta's first-round pick in the 1999 NBA draft, averaged 16.8 points and 5.4 assists last season but is more of a combo guard than a pure point guard. Dallas needed a point guard after losing Steve Nash to free agency. The 6-foot-9 Walker can play either forward position. Walker has averaged 19.9 points in his career, including 14 points with 8.3 rebounds last season.
