In Brief
PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled left-hander Dave Williams from Triple-A Nashville and brought back catcher Humberto Cota from his rehabilitation assignment with the Sounds on Monday.
The moves came after catcher J.R. House and right-handed reliever Mark Corey were demoted to Triple-A Nashville following a weekend series in Milwaukee. The Pirates were off Monday before opening a three-game series Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Cota is hitting .259 with two homers and three RBIs, but has spent much of this season sidelined with a strained muscle in his left side.
Williams was 6-2 with a 3.47 ERA at Nashville, going 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA during July. He began the 2002 season in the Pirates' rotation, but hasn't pitched for them since needing shoulder surgery at midseason that year.
