PROSPECT - Household hazardous wastes will be collected at the Butler County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 28.

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Household Hazardous Waste Task Force is sponsoring the event to give people an opportunity to dispose of hazardous waste they may have in their homes.

People can drop off common products including cleaners, paints, stains and varnishes, car batteries, motor oils, pesticides and other products containing hazardous components.

There is a fee of $2 per gallon of materials dropped off.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, homeowners typically find hazardous products in the kitchen, bathroom, garage, workshop and garden.

SUMMIT TWP - The new off-ramp from westbound Route 422 at Route 68 in Summit Township is scheduled to open today, the state Department of Transportation said.Also opening today is the new section of Route 38 that aligns with the new ramp.Once traffic is shifted onto the new off-ramp, the old ramp will close. Construction of a new westbound on-ramp will begin.The $11.2 million Summit interchange project is expected to be finished this fall.
