Steele’s Brushes runs fundraiser for Portersville EMS
CENTER TWP — Steele’s Brushes and Ceramics in Center Township brought more than a dozen local artists together on Sunday, Dec. 1, to raise money for the Portersville-Muddy Creek EMS.
Participants spent two hours Sunday afternoon painting a winter-themed “porch leaner” with a snowman on a long wooden board, which would be placed next to the artist’s front door. Each artist chipped in a few bucks to obtain their own 8-inch by 48-inch wooden board, with a portion of the proceeds going to the EMS department.
“They paid for the board, and then we added on just a little bit extra so we can donate a little bit of that too,” said Christine Steele, owner of Steele’s Brushes and Ceramics.
This event was the brainchild of Alexis Good of Portersville-Muddy Creek EMS, who has organized similar fundraising events with Steele’s over the years.
“We do things every once in a while to help supplement money,” Good said. “We are still a partial volunteer service.”
“We’ve actually done fundraisers for the Portersville EMS in the past, so she contacted me and asked us to do another one,” Steele said. “We like to do things that can spread creativity and also give back to the community.”
Good said Portersville-Muddy Creek EMS is running another fundraiser on Dec. 11 at Ben Franklin’s Taproom and Grille in New Castle.
Steele’s, founded in 2019, has been located at its current spot near Clearview Mall since 2021. It hosts classes for canvas painting, wood painting and pottery, along with certified Bob Ross classes.
