Kurtz

Hazel E. Kurtz, 99, died on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, in Weeki Wachee, Fla.

Born on Dec. 3, 1924, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Reott) Taylor. Hazel was married to the late Russell Kurtz in 1946.

Hazel loved to travel! Germany, Italy and China were a few of the highlights. Her favorite destination was Walt Disney World. Beginning in the mid-1970s, she visited at least once each year until January 2022.

Hazel retired from Butler County Prison, where she served as a guard. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church until moving south in 2007 to live with her daughter, Joan.

Surviving are her two daughters, Nancy (Tom) Pugh and Joan (Carney) McCandless; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry; and granddaughter, Lori. Hazel was the last of five siblings: Earl, June, Floyd and Bob.
