CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Although no humans were injured, some farm animals are unaccounted for after a garage on Reiber Road in Connoquenessing Township caught fire and was destroyed Wednesday night, Dec. 11.

The fire was first reported shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday. Units from the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, and Prospect-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department responded.

According to Mike Nanna, deputy chief of the Connoquenessing fire department, the residents of the home were not present when the garage caught fire, and the home was not damaged.

“We have no damage to any extended buildings. The residence is totally fine,” Nanna said. “Damage was contained to the garage. The garage itself is a complete loss.”

The fire was extinguished by around 6 p.m. Although neither any residents nor any firefighters were hurt, the whereabouts of the homeowner’s livestock, which lived in the back of the garage, are unknown.

“There’s a pen in the back,” Nanna said. “I believe he has goats and chickens. The homeowner is unaware at this time if he has lost any animals.”

Nanna believes that the fire may have been caused by heat lamps in the garage, but said he’s unable to tell for certain.

“The back of the building is damaged too much to be able to accurately determine what the cause was,” Nanna said.
