Clinton sets rate for upcoming hydrant tax
Clinton Township supervisors set the rate for the township’s new fire hydrant tax at 0.61 mills during their meeting Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The ordinance to establish the hydrant tax was first approved in October. The tax, which is aimed at offsetting the costs of maintaining the township’s fire hydrant system, is calculated by assessing all properties in the township that are within 780 feet of a fire hydrant. It takes effect at the start of 2025.
The township has previously estimated that the tax will generate just over $12,160.56 per year, and the township estimates that there are 351 properties that are close enough to a fire hydrant to be taxed. An average property assessed under the hydrant tax would pay $34.64.
