High school roundup: Karns City boys basketball routs A-C Valley; Mars hockey tops Butler

Cole Johnston’s 20 points and seven assists led Karns City’s boys basketball team to a 59-29 victory over A-C Valley on Monday.

Shane Peters added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Gremlins (1-2).

North Catholic 91, Freeport 59 — Owen Maddalon paced the Trojans with 25 points while teammates Jason Fredericks (23) and Donnie Shubert (10) also reached double figures.

Freeport featured 14 points from Bryson Paga, Carson Kane with 13 and Sean Selinger with 12.

Union 59, Forest Area 30 — Trent Fleming had 22 points, Gage Jordan 17 and Christian Salizzoni 14 as the Golden Knights won big. Union limited the Fires to 12 second-half points.

Girls basketball

Neah Ewing dropped in 12 points for Knoch, including three 3-pointers, as the Knights downed Burrell 38-28 on the road Monday night.

Knoch (2-5, 1-1 in section) brings in Highlands on Thursday.

Slippery Rock 70, Oil City 54 — Madison Romanovich had a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Rockets, while CJ Sabo had 27 points and three steals.

Slippery Rock heads to Meadville on Thursday.

North Catholic 57, Freeport 17 — North’s Sam Weir led all scorers with 11 points.

Hockey

Ben Bowser scored two goals and added two assists as Mars topped Butler 5-3 at Frozen Pond Arena.

Also scoring in the win were Jack Weaver, Max Zagorski and Jack Tirch.

Gavin Stevenson added three assists for the Planets (10-3).

Lucus Hensler scored twice for Butler (2-9) and Brayden Hardsock found the net once.
