Mercer Township finalizes balanced budget for 2025
MERCER TWP — Supervisors approved the township’s budget for the fiscal year 2025 during their monthly meeting Monday night, Dec. 16. The township is anticipating a balanced budget for 2025, with both expected revenues and expenditures totaling $690,822.
Supervisor John Bennett Jr. said $297,663 has been carried over from the prior year’s budget.
There will be no change in the general municipal tax rate of 6.6 mills, nor the EMS tax rate of 0.5 mills. However, the township is now instituting a new, separate tax of 2 mills to fund the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Company. The fire tax first was proposed at a meeting in October and approved the following month.
As with most municipalities, the majority of the township’s revenue will come from taxes, with $175,900 in tax revenue expected in 2025. Another $95,700 is anticipated through the sewer fund under “charges for services.”
The township is expecting $74,004 in new liquid fuels funding in 2025 to go with the $87,000 already in its account. Supervisors plan to use the entire combined amount on highway and street projects. Bennett said major projects the township will commit to in 2025 include paving Glacial Till Road, the entrance to Shields Road, and part of Unity Road.
An additional $103,330 had been budgeted toward highway and street projects from the general and sewer funds, making a combined $264,334.93 — the township’s largest expenditure on the 2025 budget.
Another $99,530 has been budgeted toward “general government.” while $80,415 is earmarked for public works and sanitation.
