Prison sentence ordered in 2022 Butler stabbing

A Butler man was given a prison sentence Thursday in the 2022 nonfatal stabbing of another man in Butler.

Chris Boltz, 42, was sentenced to serve two years and 15 days to eight years in state prison and fined $300 after pleading guilty to a felony charge of aggravated assault.

Butler police arrested Boltz for the Nov. 5, 2022, stabbing of Fusaro Podobensky, who was 31 at the time, during a fight outside of the Eau Claire Street Cafe. Podobensky did not attend Thursday’s sentencing in Common Pleas Court.

At Boltz’s preliminary hearing in January 2023, witnesses testified about seeing Boltz and Podobensky fighting in the parking lot. At one point, Podobensky was on top of Boltz and repeatedly punching him, according to testimony.

After one of the witnesses helped break up the fight, Boltz went to his motorcycle and walked back to Podobensky, who was then seen bleeding, according to testimony.

Police arrived and found Podobensky on the ground and saw Boltz trying to enter the bar, but being stopped by security guards. Police found a knife with blood on it in Boltz’s jeans pocket.
