Big Lots to close all locations nationwide
Discount retailer Big Lots announced it is preparing to close all of its locations across the United States, which includes its Butler Township location at 190 Alameda Plaza.
Big Lots had previously planned to sell its assets to private equity firm Nexus Capital Management, but that deal is no longer expected to proceed.
The company said it continues to negotiate with Nexus as well as explore other alternatives, but it now plans to shutter all of its locations and announced it will hold “going out of business” sales at all stores.
Big Lots, based in Columbus, Ohio, currently operates more than 900 stores across the United States, with more than 60 in Pennsylvania.
Employees at the Butler location said they were told by management the store will remain open until early March 2025.
“We all have worked extremely hard and have taken every step to complete a going-concern sale,” Big Lots CEO Bruce Thorn said in a statement. “While we remain hopeful that we can close an alternative going-concern transaction, in order to protect the value of the Big Lots estate, we have made the difficult decision to begin the (going out of business) process.”
According to Big Lots’ website, the company is currently offering up to 50% off its products store wide, from furniture, lawn and garden, apparel, health and beauty, and other consumer goods.
No time frame has been provided at this time on when the stores will officially close, but Big Lots will continue to serve customers in-store and online until further notice, and will provide updates as available.
